The Blind Men and the Elephant

Six blind monks meet an elephant for the first time. They’ve heard rumors of a magnificent creature passing through the village and their curiosity outweighs their caution. To understand what it is, each monk reaches out and feels whatever truth meets their hands, declaring what they feel.
One touches the side (solid like a wall), One touches the trunk (feels like a snake), One touches a tusk (a spear), One touches a leg (a bodhi tree), One touches an ear (a fan), and One touches the tail (a rope). Each monk is certain they know what an elephant is because they just felt one. And each one does, and each one doesn’t. And they end up arguing about it for the rest of the day, which also happened to be the most beautiful day of the year.
We’re all feeling our way through life from different angles. Sometimes we mistake our piece for the entire picture. When we share what we’ve found, and when we’re willing to listen, the elephant will become clearer. We will too.
